Artist's Comments

Man, there was a lot of confusion for the Hugo Awards Logo contest [link] but the person that wrote back regarding my submission said that it fit all of the contest parameters, so I'm glad.

I was initially shooting for a square personally, but the poll that you guys filled out for me suggested that I should go with a more rectangular design.

In hindsight, this works out quite a bit better as they could knock the logo on it's side to make website buttons (which they specifically said they needed) and they work well for online ad banners.

I honestly don't expect that my designs here will win anything (soooo many people entered), but It was a fun challenge nevertheless.
^.^

What do you guys think of them?

Edit 7/20/2009

I got the official rejection letter for my entry today. I expected that, so no big deal. I knew I wasn't going to win ever since I saw the logo posted at this [link] - which I am rooting so hard for right now. I hope it at least ranks. ^.^

The Letter:
-------------------
Many thanks for entering the Hugo Award Logo Design Contest. Our judges have selected a winner and I regret to inform you that your entry was not selected. The winning logo design will be announced at this year's Hugo Awards ceremony on the evening of August 9, 2009, in Montreal. We expect to display the new logo on the Hugo Awards web
site shortly thereafter.

There has been some confusion regarding rights to the unsuccessful designs. "Hugo Award" and the specific design of the Hugo rocket are service marks of the World Science Fiction Society. Because we asked for logos that contained both of these elements the logos as they stand are not much use to anyone except us. However, if you remove the words "Hugo Award" and remove, or change the shape of, the rocket then you are left with your own artwork over which we have no claim.

We thank you for entering the contest. We received 390 entries from 24 countries, and the judges expressed their appreciation for all of the work everyone put in on their designs.

Dawwww! Thank you!
^.^

I'd be happy to just get feedback from them about the design, but assuming that a lot of people entered that's not really all that likely. X'D

The ones in the lower left quadrant are my favorite. I have no idea what this is or what it is for, but good luck in the contest! :D

Hehe. Thanks! Those are my favorites too!
^.^

The one's above them are actually because we needed to present a non-colored version to show that the design could be put on odd things that don't adapt well to color (like engraved plaques). :B
