1.) Throw some lines on paper (30 seconds or less)
2.) darken over the one's you like. Add more (30 second or less)
3.) repeat process until you hit the point of shading
4.) add shading, and detail.
5.) repeat process until you're happy with what you've got
6.) adjust contrast in photoshop and the sketch lines practically dissapear.
That's it. Sheesh.

The point behind this "sort-of" tutorial is to show what a real geasture drawing sequence is supposed to look like. There are so many people who follow the "geasture" drawing techniques found in the "How to draw Manga" books on my watch that it's driving me nuts.
I'm also tired of telling people at conventions or at school that this is how I get the "flow" in my images.
I think that shading is a never ending science. =>_>=
I'm a whole lot better than I used to be, but I still have things that I need to learn about it.
Practice shading in high-contrast grayscale (from a life model of course) and you should be able to pick up a lot really quickly (DON'T BE AFRAID TO USE BLACK BLACK! )
AFO wasn't good for me in the sense of smiling and nodding. I never liked the How To Draw manga books before, but this was pathetic. So many people with the exact same poses and the exact same styles! ARGH!
That's actually why I really really like your drawing efforts. You're going about it in a way that actually improves your skills.
yesh..
Can you do one for complex pose and forshortening too?
pls?
well, if it's too much then don't worry about it, heh. I'm having trouble making my lines fluid and proportions for poses and forshortening.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
